During an audit of a large metal stamping operation, Cornerstone identified that the facility had not completed equipment-specific energy control (lockout) procedures. Instead, the Client had prepared a generic procedure that was not compliant, nor did the information reference aid in protecting workers. Upon review with the Client, CEHS subsequently created machine-specific procedures for over 100 pieces of equipment, inclusive of digital photos (of all energy sources), prepared energy shutoff tags, and procedures (on durable substrate) to be easily affixed to the equipment.

Results/Lessons Learned

Our expertise allowed this to be completed in less than 40 hours on-site - a fraction of the time the site personnel estimated they would need to do in-house. The result was in-house personnel trained on generating compliant and effective LOTO procedures in the future, an improved understanding of the regulation to improve their in-house training, and contributed to an overall compliant energy control program and improved safety for workers.
