Cornerstone was approached by a large logistics and distribution company to review its program for inspecting their fall protection equipment. Corporate standards were stringent and required monthly inspections (by in-house staff) and annual inspections (by either inhouse staff or a third-party contractor). The annual test requirements are extensive and had taken in-house staff up to 40 man hours to complete. All equipment was essentially out-of-service during the inspections

Results/Lessons Learned

Cornerstone used its expertise in safety and process improvement to reduce the inspection time to 16 hours and rotate the equipment to keep most of it in service while it was not being inspected. A full inventory, including manufacturer, part number, serial number, and inspection results, was developed to increase not only the efficiency of Cornerstone’s annual inspections but also the monthly in-house inspections.
