A Tier I/Tier II automotive manufacturing client asked for expedited assistance to conduct a job hazard analysis (JHA) on newly installed equipment. The operation had grown rapidly over three years, which resulted in swiftly adding additional production equipment and an increase in temporary-to-hire staffing to deal with the increased demand for parts. Unfortunately, such circumstances led to limited time for job safety training and detailed job hazard analysis – ultimately resulting in the partial amputation of an employee’s finger. As part of the client’s ‘emergency’ response, CEHS conducted and documented job hazard analysis for several pieces of equipment. To accommodate the client’s needs, the CEHS safety manager made himself available via conference calls throughout the day of the incident. They visited the plant (to conduct JHA’s) on a Saturday morning.

Results/Lessons Learned

The resulting JHA documentation allowed the client to conduct detailed safety training for employees before the upcoming Monday first shift. CEHS solicited interaction with several client representatives who accompanied him throughout the analysis. This interaction helped our staff achieve consensus with client management in the corrective actions necessary to ensure the operation’s job analysis methodology complied with regulatory requirements going forward.
